General information about the department

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry was established in 2004, is a part of the Faculty of Foreign Citizens Training and is one of the graduating departments of the National University of Pharmacy. The department trains applicants for higher education at the second (master’s) and third (educational and scientific) levels.

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry has a team of teachers, which includes 4 Doctors of Sciences, 9 Candidates of Sciences, including 3 professors, 7 associate professors, and 2 assistants. The department is headed by Doctor of Pharmacy, Professor Perekhoda Lina Oleksiivna. The Department of Medicinal Chemistry teaches the following educational components for 3-5 year students:

  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry (included in the list of educational components presented for the licensing integrated exam “KROK-2. 226 Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy”)

  • Industrial toxicology

As well as educational components of free choice:

  • Physicochemical factors of drug action

  • Molecular design of potential APIs

  • Medicinal and analytical toxicology

  • Toxicological chemistry

  • Topical issues of drug addiction and substance abuse

The staff of the department promotes the development of student science through active participation in national and international competitions of student research papers, competitions, scientific clubs. The department has a student scientific society, which annually attracts about 30 students to conduct research in the scientific areas of the department.

Research work occupies one of the leading places in the department’s activities, the main directions of which currently include chemical synthesis and analysis of biologically active substances, creation of medicines of synthetic origin;

pharmacological studies of biologically active substances and drugs of synthetic origin, their application in medicine;

development of new methods for the analysis of medicines to detect counterfeit products; development and validation of methods for quality control of pharmaceutical and industrial drugs.
